Academic Integrity
We have designed Prooflo to be used openly and honestly. This page explains what Prooflo is, what it is not, and how to use it in a way that is transparent with your institution.
What Prooflo is
Prooflo is a language editing tool. It corrects grammar, punctuation, spelling, and clarity. It checks for consistency in terminology, formatting, and academic register. Every edit is returned as a tracked change in your document — you review each one individually and decide whether to accept or reject it. Nothing changes in your thesis without your explicit approval.
What Prooflo is not
Prooflo does not write content. It does not generate arguments, reformulate your conclusions, or restructure your chapters. Specifically:
- It is not a ghostwriting service — the intellectual content of your thesis remains entirely your own.
- It is not a grade guarantor — language quality is one factor in assessment, and we make no promises about outcomes.
- It is not a substitute for supervision — Prooflo does not replace the role of your supervisor or examiner.
Professional standards
Prooflo follows the guidelines of the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd) and the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) for thesis editing. These standards define a clear boundary between language editing — which is permitted — and content intervention — which is not. Prooflo operates within the language editing boundary.
Track changes only
Every edit Prooflo makes is a tracked change. You receive a document in which each correction is visible, attributed, and individually reversible. There are no silent rewrites. You accept or reject each edit before submitting your thesis — the final document is always yours to approve.
Disclosure statement
We recommend that students disclose the use of Prooflo to their institution. You are welcome to use the following statement:
“This thesis was edited using Prooflo, an AI-assisted language editing tool. All edits were delivered as track changes and individually reviewed and accepted by the author. A full edit log is available on request.”
This statement is designed to be accurate, complete, and appropriate for inclusion in a thesis submission declaration.
Supervisor communication
Different institutions have different policies on the use of editing tools. We recommend discussing the use of Prooflo with your supervisor before submitting your thesis. The disclosure statement above is designed to facilitate that conversation — it gives your supervisor or institution a clear, honest account of what was done and how.
Our philosophy
Prooflo raises questions to consider, not directives to follow. Where a sentence is ambiguous, we flag it. Where a term is used inconsistently, we note it. We never tell you what to write — that is your work, and it should remain so. The goal is to help you say what you mean, as clearly as possible, in your own voice.
